We’re teaming up with some lovely ladies at Lovely Bride to announce our New York trunk shows! We’re so excited to now be carrying our gowns at two incredible shops – Lovely Rochester and Lovely New York. Lovely Rochester is situated right on Main Street in the heart of charming Victor, one of the fastest growing and most centrally located communities in upstate New York. The shop found its home in the Dryer-Loomis House which, built in 1838, is as “Lovely” as can be. You may be trying your Katie May dresses on in the spacious former library or the grand dining room. Lovely New York is located in the idyllic neighborhood of Tribeca. In the triangle called ‘Duane Park’, you’ll find cute home stores, a scrumptious patisserie, and a quaint little coffee shop to meander through while you decide which Lovely dress will be yours.
Katie, owner of Lovely Rochester, was able to answer some questions for us about what working in bridal means to her as well as what brides can look forward to when they’re searching for the perfect Katie May gown at Lovely! Read on to see what Katie said…
1. What draws you to bridal?
It’s such an amazing and unique experience to have with a customer! It’s an opportunity to work with a person as they find one of the most important pieces of apparel that they will ever wear. What an honor! Plus, selfishly, who wouldn’t want to work with beautiful things all day long?
2. How would you define a Lovely Bride?
Lovely Brides are looking for something to set themselves apart! They each have their own unique perspective and want to showcase that on their wedding day. Many are looking to do something a little unexpected, while still wanting to feel really beautiful and bridal on their big day! They are also modern, fresh and just fun all around!
3. What is unique about the bridal experience at Lovely Bride?
Shopping at Lovely is fun! While we are pretty serious about finding each Lovely Bride the perfect gown, we like to keep it casual! We have a no pressure environment, and our stylists really care about each and every bride. Our actual store helps too. Lovely Rochester is located in a 200-year old house, so it feels like you are going to a home, not a retail environment, to find your dress.
4. What is the most important thing for a bride to keep in mind when starting to look for a wedding gown?
Keep an open mind! So many brides totally surprise themselves with what they fall in love with. We like to pull one “wildcard” gown for each bride who comes in…something we think they may love, but never would have considered. Sometimes they totally love it, or sometimes it just helps reinforce the look they originally wanted. Elimination is just as important as finding the gown you love!
5. What are your top three tips for styling a wedding gown?
1. Keep the overall “feel” you want for your wedding day in mind. Sometimes that can help you figure out exactly how to pull your final look together.
2. It’s ok to wait on accessories until you have your actual gown. That gives you some time to see what the options are, figure out how you’ll do your hair, think about whether a long veil is appropriate, etc! If styling the full look is stressing you out, take some time and think through it.
3. There are no rules! If it makes you feel beautiful to wear long sleeves but you are getting married in August – just go for it! Or if wearing blue makes you smile…that’s your prerogative! This is one day when you and your fiancé should do whatever it takes to make yourselves happy!
We can’t wait to see some Lovely brides find their Katie May gowns at Lovely Rochester and Lovely New York. Brides, be sure and stop by Lovely Rochester or Lovely New York before the holidays get too hectic, and treat yourself to an incredible bridal experience.
