BEHIND-THE SCENES OF OUR EDITORIAL SHOOT WITH CONFETTI DAYDREAMS

We recently collaborated with Confetti Daydreams for an editorial shoot, and are still crushing hard on the looks that were created. We spoke with our hair and makeup artist Melina Ruiz of Beauty by Melina, to give us some tips on two of the beauty looks she created for the shoot…. Enjoy! XO

“In order to create the perfect texture in hair you must prep the hair with the right products and use the proper tools to make it look effortless!!! Start with clean hair and mist a heat protectant on hair to protect form heating tools such as curling iron and blow dryer.
First, I prepped hair with Kenra Blow-Dry Spray. This product will make sure the hair is protected from intense heat damage and hair breakage. I then used a THEORIE curling wand to create a wave in the hair that would later be slightly distressed with a texturizing spray. I took sections of hair (approximately an inch) and sprayed with KMS Dry Wax Spray before wrapping the hair around the curling wand.
After all of the hair was curled, I sprayed in Kenra Texturizing Spray to make Mikala’s hair look slightly more effortless. This style is great because can be left all down or it can be pinned into any style you would like (we pinned it to the side for the shoot).
Overall, the focus with this style was to make it look as though the hair has texture with out looking messy. I finished off the style by using Frederic Fekkai Flexible Hold Hairspray. This is product it great because you can run your fingers through it or brush out if need be.”
Makeup for Understated Elegance
To create this look, I focused on beautiful and radiant skin. To create beautiful, flawless skin I used Becca Cosmetics Foundation in Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme. Although this product is named “ultimate coverage,” it can be sheered down to an incredibly natural-looking foundation that looks like skin. In addition to that foundation, I added the Becca Shimmering Skin Protector in the shade “Opal.” The skin protector is my GO-TO product to create beautiful skin. I finished up with Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage powder over the t-zone areas and under the eyes. For the most part, I prefer not to use powder all over the skin.
The next thing that was a focus of this look was the bold wine-colored lip. When using bold colors on the lip I prefer to use a MATTE color. To create the PERFECT bold lip, I recommend the following products and tools:
First, hydrate your lips correctly with Dr. Lipp Conditioner. Once they are prepped correctly, blot off the excess lip conditioner and lightly put powder the lips to create a smooth, matte surface for the lip color to adhere to. Next, you MUST have the proper lip brush to apply the lip color. For this look, I used a liquid lip color and applied it in sheer layers, allowing each layer to dry before applying another layer of color. DONE and DONE!”
